History and Terroir

Huré Frères is spearheaded by the talented François Huré and his brother Pierre. The estate was originally purchased by their grandfather George back in 1960, though their father Raoul took the reins just 11 years later in 1971. After traveling the world and working alongside a handful of well-known winemakers, Raoul’s son François returned to the family domaine and took over in 2008. Four years later, Pierre joined François at the estate to manage all aspects of the viticulture, as François handles all aspects of winemaking. Today, the Huré family organically farms 11 hectares of vines across a handful of villages in the Montagne de Reims, as well as purchases fruit from an additional 3 hectares in Rilly-la-Montagne and Villers-Marmery, but even if they don't farm the parcel, it's their team that selects harvest dates. Although not certified, biodynamic methods are also used in the vineyards, and certain parcels are not tilled. Under Pierre’s oversight, yields have been reduced, and an abundance of cover crops are cultivated between rows. 40% of the family’s 11 hectares are planted to Pinot Noir, 40% are planted to Meunier, and the remaining 20% is dedicated to Chardonnay.
