Jean-Michel Gerin

History and Terroir
The GERIN family has been rooted in the Côte-Rôtie vineyard, in the village of Ampuis, for six generations. The journey began with the establishment of Domaine Jean-Michel GERIN in 1983, starting with the purchase of a parcel in Côte-Rôtie. In 1987, they produced their first bottle, taking over the family's vineyards from Marcel GERIN and Alfred GERIN, the grandfather and father. The journey continues in 1988 with the first separate vinification of the "Les Grandes Places" vineyard, followed by "La Landonne" in 1996. In the early 1990s, the construction of a wine cellar and barrel cellar becomes necessary. The bottle storage area is built in 2000.
Farming and Winemaking
The vineyard is situated 30km south of Lyon, making it the northernmost appellation in the Rhône Valley and one of the smallest, spanning around 320 hectares. Benefiting from the Mediterranean and continental climates, the wines are characterized by tannic power, silkiness, and elegance. The dominant grape is "Syrah," occasionally blended with Viognier to enhance finesse. Today, with nearly 17 hectares of vineyards, the family estate continues to thrive as the two sons, Michaël and Alexis, face new challenges, including the transition to Organic Agriculture initiated in 2020. Wines: The wines from Domaine Jean-Michel GERIN are known for their distinct character. They started with vineyards such as "Les Grandes Places" in 1988 and "La Landonne" in 1996. Later, they embarked on a new project in the Priorat region of Spain with friends, cultivating traditional grape varieties like Grenache and Carignan, alongside a small portion of Syrah. Additionally, they planted the "La Viallière" vineyard in Côte-Rôtie, which bore its first fruits in 2009. Over the years, their dedication to quality and innovation led them to vinify "Côte-Bodin" separately in 2018.
