History and Terroir

Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne is a pillar in the world of biodynamics. After studying science, agronomy, and oenology at Polytechnique (Paris), AgroParisTech, and Montpellier SupAgro, Antoine began consulting on organic and biodynamic farming with growers across Burgundy. He most notably worked at Domaine Leflaive, where he spent eight formative years of his career. In 2008, he and Anne-Claude Leflaive founded the École Du Vin et des Terroirs; four years later, he published his well-regarded book, What’s So Special About Biodynamic Wines: 35 Questions & Answers For Wine Lovers. In 2015, Antoine ultimately left Domaine Leflavie and founded his own consulting company, La Pierre Ronde, the following year.

Farming and Winemaking

Thanks to his many close relationships with growers across the region, Antoine has been able to purchase some of the healthiest and highest quality grapes across the Côte d’Or. Although his foundations lie in organic and biodynamic principles, he is not dogmatic about working exclusively with fruit farmed using these methods. Maison La Pierre Ronde is rooted in Beaune and focuses on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Aligoté. In the cellar, grapes are pressed, fermented, and aged in a combination of barrels, foudres, and amphorae (for whites) for just over a year. Some whole cluster inclusion is used in red vinification depending on the cuvée and vintage. All wines are bottled without fining. 2021 marks the inaugural vintage for Maison La Pierre Ronde. The wines are vibrant, energetic, and show an immense refinement. Although new to making his own wines, it’s safe to say that Antoine’s future looks bright.
