History and Terroir

HENRI GIRAUD, a family-run Champagne house based in Aÿ, France, has roots dating back to 1625. It is one of the oldesthouses in the appellation. In 1990, Claude Giraud returned to Aÿ and began crafting oak barrels from the nearby Argonne forest, believing it plays a crucial role in the terroir-focused aspect of the wines. Chef de cave Sébastien Le Golvet is now in charge of viticulture as well as in the cellar, since the house’s iconic champagnes have only grown in quality.

Farming and Winemaking

The signature house style includes fermentation and aging in Argonne oak barrels, giving the wines their distinctive richness. Terra cotta and concrete are also used at the winery, while stainless steel has been eliminated since 2016. Sustainable farming practices and HVE (High Environmental Value) certification are followed. The Champagnes are concentrated, elegantly muscular and precise, known for their well-integrated new oak notes and poignant, saline-tinged finishes.
